Meet & Greet

10:00 — Coffee, snacks & gear sharing

The day starts with coffee and snacks as we get to know each other. Feel free to bring your own recording equipment — this is the time to share your setup, compare notes on techniques, and swap field recording stories. Whether you're a seasoned recordist or just getting started, this is your chance to connect with like-minded people in a relaxed setting.

Daniel Kordík

Daniel Kordík

Lecture — 11:30

Daniel Kordík's music spans electronic music, free improvisation, and field recordings, including work with the hardware noise duo Jamka and various solo and collaborative projects. He co-runs London-based Earshots Recordings with Edward Lucas and N.O. Moore, focusing on free improvised music. Kordík works as a sound designer at Czech Radio and serves as one of the curators for Bratislava's annual NEXT: Advance Music Festival.

Framework Radio

Framework Radio

Lecture — 14:00

Framework radio has been broadcasting for nearly 25 years, and comprises nearly 1000 editions. It began at a time when a new community of sound artists with a special interest in found sound was developing, a community spread across the globe that, thanks to the internet, was no longer limited to a specific geography. With a rich history of contribution, content and contacts, some view it as a veritable who's who of our field recording community. In this presentation we will explore the history and mission of framework radio, and its hopes for future evolution and activity.

Tomáš Šenkyřík

Tomáš Šenkyřík

Lecture — 15:00

Tomáš Šenkyřík is a sound artist working with field recordings since 2008, focusing on the constantly changing sonic environment as his primary musical inspiration. By recording forests, birds, amphibians, and underwater soundscapes, he explores how biodiversity, climate change, human noise, and natural shifts transform sonic landscapes. He founded Soundscape.cz, a sound map documenting the sounds of South Moravia.

Izabela Dłużyk

Izabela Dłużyk

Lecture — 16:00

When we become interested in recording nature, apart from the fascination with its sounds — where this journey usually begins — questions about its technical side and the most useful equipment inevitably arise. It is a complex issue, because there is no single universal technique that works in every situation. During this presentation, Izabela will invite you to look at different strategies that can be used for nature recording. We will delve into this topic through listening and comparing the recordings obtained through various techniques, and try to answer some fundamental questions, such as what does a good recording actually mean.

Izabela Dłużyk was born in Gdańsk, Poland. She has been blind since birth — as she herself admits, this may be precisely what shaped her particular sensitivity to sound. Already in childhood she began to show a deep interest in nature, especially in birds and their voices. Gradually, her exploration of the sonic richness of the natural world turned into a passion for recording not only birds, but also other animals and natural sounds. Her work focuses mainly on revealing the sonic beauty of nature in Poland, though she has also visited natural hotspots in Peru and Malaysia. In 2023 she defended her doctoral dissertation titled "Sound Symbolism in Polish, Russian, British, and Spanish Children's Literature: The Voices of Birds."

Field Recording Q&A

Panel discussion — 17:00

An open Q&A session with all the presenting artists — Patrick McGinley, Izabela Dłużyk, Tomáš Šenkyřík, Daniel Kordík, and Jonáš Gruska. Since the individual lectures won't leave much room for questions, this is your chance to ask about field recording practice, techniques, equipment, and anything else on your mind.

Murmer listening salon

Murmer Listening Salon

Concert — 19:00

Patrick Tubin McGinley presents his 'listening salon': a stream of consciousness tour through his 30-year archive of field recordings and found sounds. McGinley will lead a discussion around his practice, experience, and strategy of listening and recording, allowing the conversation to define a path of listening through a collection of sounds from around the world.

Patrick Tubin McGinley (aka Murmer) is a sound, performance, and radio artist based in Estonia. For over 30 years he has been building a collection of found sounds and found objects that have become the basis of all his work, focusing on small discoveries and concentrated attention. In 2002 he founded Framework, an organisation that produces a weekly field recording themed radio show, broad- and podcasting around the world. He works equally with spaces, objects, resonances, and people, in composition, performance, or simply collective action and experience, in exploration of perception via attentive listening.
